HEY GUYS! I haven’t posted on here for a while, and not because I've been too busy (I wish but yanoo …. Lockdown) but because I've been feeling a little … meh *for lack of a better word*!
My whole goal this year of 2020 has been to focus on my health, my menstrual cycle and recover my period after 6 years of amenorrhea. Having lived in a constant state of GO GO GO #hustlementality and very much in my masculine energy, the sole focus of mine in last few months has been to nurture my divine feminine energy, reconnect to a state of being and find my flow.
I recently stumbled across George Lizos book ‘Lightworkers Gotta Work’ (read here) and suddenly realised, my thirst for the divine feminine may have resulted in another vibrational imbalance, now favouring the Feminine energy and consequently, suppressed the energy of ‘action’ and ‘doing’ represented by the Masculine.
As a society, now more than ever, we need compassion and emotional understanding. The re-emerging of the Feminine energy in each of us is necessary to create more balance on all levels, not only because it teaches us how to flow, trust our intuition and connect with our bodies, but also because it teaches sensitivity, forgiveness, patience and love. But as I have recently learnt, this energy of the divine feminine should not just be nurtured, but it should also be worked whilst honouring the Divine Masculine that is alive in each and every one of us as well.
The only way we can truly balance our spiritual awakening is to integrate both sides of our nature as men and women – not simply one above the other.
WHAT IS MASCULINE AND FEMININE ENERGY?
Masculine and Feminine energy is not a new concept. You may have heard of them referred to before as Yin (feminine) and Yang (masculine) or Lunar (feminine) and Solar (masculine).
Every human, regardless of their gender, sexuality and sexual preference have both Feminine and Masculine energies. They are universal energies – we are all born with them, but we have the potential to lean more towards one polarity or the other. Like all forces in life, in order to be balanced, we need both Masculine and Feminine energies to operate in a state of flow, harmony & peace. No one will ever attain a perfect balance of both energies, and nor will you always be constantly in just one of the energies, life ebbs and flows and external circumstances & mindset shifts can all alter the dominance of each energy.
Take societal norms for example. For thousands of years, we have separated the two energies and characteristically taught that we are either male or female with no mention or validation of the fact that everyone has both aspects in their core makeup. As a young girl, if you preferred to play outside in the dirt rather than with your barbies, you were labelled a tomboy. As a young boy, if you were more sensitive or cried a lot, you were told to ‘man up!’. Even as you grow older, you may find yourself disliking that self-confident, direct female character but not quite having a reason why? Perhaps it's because they are in their masculine and it’s something you feel uncomfortable with.
We were never thought about how a female should approach her masculine side, or a male should approach his feminine side in balance.
MASCULINE ENERGY
Masculine energy is all about taking action and “doing”. Also referred to as Yang, this energy is assertive, goal-oriented, accomplished and dominant. Fuelled by directiveness, focus, and the logical left side of the brain, pure masculine energy has the gift of clarity, so it knows what needs to be done to achieve something. It represents our power of manifestation and relating to the physical aspects of the universe. This energy is associated with daytime, activity, vision, and power. People with strong masculine energy are able to move mountains, hustle without feeling burned-out and are always able to keep their eyes on the prize. Those in their masculine are usually blessed with a little extra energy, motivation and drive.
When imbalanced, however, it can result in the following:
Fear of taking risks, even if you know it’s the right thing for you, and could lead to great opportunities.
Saying no to things, and regretting it later.
Needing to plan everything, and feeling very stressed if anything has to change.
Thought of by others as being too rigid or inflexible.
Failure to instigate any real changes in your life (although you may have tried to), and often sticking to the same routines.
Ego anger, resentment and aggression.
FEMININE ENERGY
Feminine energy is all about “being”. Also referred to as Yin, this energy is nurturing, soft, compassionate and vulnerable. As you might expect, emotions play a key role here and are in fact one of the doorways for strengthening the feminine energy, since power is created from going within and feeling emotions. Feminine energy relates to the unseen aspects of our universe associated with creativity, love, beauty, intuition and flow. It is fluid and flows from moment to moment like a river.
Imbalanced feminine energy results in:
An inability to focus, and tendency to become easily distracted
Failure to complete anything, but constantly trying to juggle lots of things at once.
Saying yes to things, and regretting it later.
Difficulty making decisions, and often agonising over them for days, weeks or months before (and after) making them.
Becoming really disorganised, and losing things constantly.
Forgetting things continually.
A lack of structure, or forward planning, in your life.
Becoming weak, lost and feeling a sense of need towards others.
HARMONY IS FOUND WHEN BOTH ENERGIES ARE BALANCED
Masculine and Feminine energies are both equally important and necessary, and all humans consist of both masculine and feminine energy. To be balanced, to get things done, and to have a healthy relationship, both of the masculine and the feminine need to be present. However, it is in knowing when we are out of harmony and unbalanced in one of these area’s that is key. Based on nature and nurture, one of these energies is usually our dominant energy.
For example, someone with too much masculine energy could feel exhausted or stressed out and may benefit from tapping into their softer, more nurturing side in order to become less rigid and flow more. Someone with too much feminine energy could strengthen their masculine to allow them to take action on goals and think with a clearer, more concise mind.
HOW TO GET BACK TO BALANCE?
There are ways of re-connecting to your masculine and nurturing your feminine energy no matter what gender you identify with:
Re-connecting with your masculine energy:
Make time each day to do something that fulfils you, no matter how big or small, whether it's reading a book, helping others, working on a passion project, taking up a hobby, schedule an hour or so to work on that thing that sets your soul on fire!
Pick a result or goal to work towards and schedule a time during your week to work at it.
Allow yourself to feel joy and achievement, celebrate the little things in life and bask in the big things!
Write daily affirmations to help bring forth masculine energy into your life, such as ‘I am confident, I deserve to be heard’, ‘I am calling back my ability to manifest what I want in the world’, ‘It is safe for me to feel and express my power’.
Create a powerful morning routine to set you up positively for the day.
Develop your discipline, read self-help and self-improvement books such as The Now Habit
Get together with friends and loved ones. Feel that sense of camaraderie and have fun!
Work on techniques to exercise your solar plexus chakra. Read more about that here.
Start making yourself accountable and take ownership for your actions. Feel empowered, be the leader of your own life. A few examples could be:
If you're considered irresponsible or laid back, start taking more responsibility.
Don’t blame others or use them as a punching back if you’re having a bad day, instead, process your feelings and work on methods to deal with them.
If a plan didn’t work out, don’t give up, be proactive and make a new plan.
Re-connecting with your feminine energy:
Connect with nature, whether it's simply getting outside every day for a walk or learning more about plants and herbs to grow yourself – maybe you start a kitchen garden or invest in some new plants for your home.
Dance. This opens up your sacral chakra and your creative energy by connecting to your womb energy and surrendering to the divine feminine.
Journal. Connecting with your inner self through journaling is a great way to get in touch with how you are feeling, your intuitions, your thoughts and ideas.
Strengthen your intuition. Your sense and your higher self can feel things that your basic human sense cannot. So when you get that gut feeling, or an urge to do something, practise following your instincts and note where it takes you. We are so innately instinctive but we lose touch with it through our conditioning in this world. The more you build this muscle, the stronger it will become.
Sensualize your life. Be present to smells, tastes, textures. Notice the beauty in everything.
Nurture. Everyone craves to be nurtured and to nurture others, and this is a strong trait of the feminine. Practise encouraging those around you, give out hugs and positive energy to all you can.
Allow emotions to flow. Expressing emotions is not only a way to keep yourself on a good balance of masculine and feminine energy, it's good for your personal health, improves relationships, and builds self-awareness.
I hope that by understanding these two energies, and the idea that both can and should live within you, you can better recognise when you are straying too far in one direction or the other. However you find yourself felling, don’t get discouraged or judgemental – it's simply a matter of asking yourself how you feel and taking action on the things you need to harmonize your soul. A little intention/affirmation for balancing the divine masculine & feminine:
I allow the sacred feminine and masculine to harmonize within.
Much love,
